本傑明·富蘭克林的13條行爲規範和修身方法


本傑明·富蘭克林(Benjamin Franklin)(1706-1790) 是美國著名政治家、科學家,同時亦是出版商、印刷商、記者、作家、慈善家;更是傑出的外交家及發明家。他是美國革命時重要的領導人之一,參與了多項重要文件的草擬,並曾出任美國駐法國大使,成功取得法國支持美國獨立。本傑明·富蘭克林曾經進行多項關於電的實驗,並且發明了避雷針。他還發明瞭雙焦點眼鏡,蛙鞋等等。本傑明·富蘭克林是共濟會的成員,被選爲英國皇家學會院士。他曾是美國首位郵政局長。

本傑明·富蘭克林的13條行爲規範:

一【節制】食不過飽;飲不過量。

Temperance: Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation.

二【靜默】言則於人於己有益,不作無益閒聊。

Silence: Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.

三【條理】各樣東西放在一定地方;做事情有一定時間限制。

Order: Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.

四【決斷】決定做應該要做的事;決定後堅持到底。

Resolution: Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve.

五【儉樸】花錢須於人於己有益,不糟蹋浪費。

Frugality: Make no expense but to do good to others or yourself; i.e.waste nothing.

六【勤勞】愛惜時間;時刻做有益之事事;不做不必要的行動。

Industry: Lose no time; be always employ'd in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.

七【誠懇】不欺騙人;思想純潔公正;說話要出於誠意。

Sincerity: Use no hurtful deceit; think innocently and justly, and, if you speak, speak accordingly.

八【正直】不做於人有害的事;做好自己責任內的事。

Justice: Wrong none by doing injuries, or omitting the benefits that are your duty.  

九【中庸】不走極端;對人少懷怨恨之心;容忍別人對我應有的懲罰。

Moderation: Avoid extreams; forbear resenting injuries so much as you think they deserve.

十【整潔】身體、衣服和住所務必清潔。

Cleanliness: Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, cloaths, or habitation.

十一【寧靜】不因瑣事或普通而不可避免的事件而煩惱。

Tranquility: Be not distuibed at trifles, or at accidents common or unavoidable.

十二【貞潔】節慾,不傷害身體,不許損他人的安寧或名譽。

Chastity: Rarely use venery but for health or offspring, never to dulness, weakness, or the injury of your own or another's peace or reputation.

十三【謙虛】效法耶穌和蘇格拉底。

Humility: Imitate Jesus and Socrates.
